A virus has a very simple design made of 3 components. One being its protein coat. the protein coat protects the genetic material which is used to reproduce using another cell as a host because the virus cannot reproduce by itself. BUT the virus first needs to get through the cell membrane, and to do that the virus has glycolipids and proteins that allow the virus to go through the membrane. And thats it.

Virus Structures

Description

  • Genetic Material

    • DNA

    • Single Stranded DNA

    • RNA

    • Double Stranded RNA

  • Capsid (Protein Coat)

    • Protects genome

    • Variety of shapes

  • Glycoproteins & Glycolipids

    • How the capsid attaches to the host cell
